There is a problem with Java 1.5 that may cause Dynamic Music FlashCards to stop playing notes, yet all other audio feedback continues to function. This problem is due to the fact that some copies of Java 1.5 were packaged with a corrupt or missing MIDI soundbank, which FlashCards requires to make the note sounds. I have only seen this problem with the Windows version, but if you have the same problem on a Mac, please contact me, and I will update the instructions below to include Mac OS X.

Fortunately, the problem is fairly easy to fix. Please read all the instructions before starting!

  1. First, quit all Java applications, including FlashCards if it's running.
  2. Now, download soundbank-min.gm, and copy it into the following folder (if you installed Java in a different place, or have a different version than what's shown below, use that location instead)
    • C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_11\lib\audio\
    • If the "audio" folder does not exist, you must create it.
  3. Once you have saved the sound bank into the audio folder, launch FlashCards, and the notes should play again.
